Big league win for the first team.

Yesterday our first team faced Hetton Juniors who were sitting at the lower end of the league table and who were searching for their first win of the season.

After a well respected minutes silence to show our thoughts and respect for HRH the Duke of Edinburgh the game got underway.

The home side with six under 18 lads in the starting line up were hungry to put Wednesday’s defeat to bed and set out their stall in the first five minutes with attacking intent.

It only took 7 minutes for the first goal to go in as Dylan Eadsforth linked up well down the right with Dan Pringle before finding Ben Medland who’s cleverly switched pass was fiercely driven into the far corner by Joe Dufton.

The Marra’s second goal was created by some quick thinking from Jamie Gibson who found the opposing defenders napping with a quick throw to Ben Medland who unselfishly pulled the ball into the path of Benji Jackson to fire home.

Goal number three followed on the 17 minute mark as Dufton’s vision put the ball into the path of a fantastic overlapping run by Gibson who squared to Medland for a close range finish.

Kenny Shevels got in on the the action for our fourth as he scored from a scrambled corner into the six yard box.

It became 5-0 on thirty minutes as Pringle shifted the ball to his right which got him a step on the defender inside the box before finding the bottom left corner.

Goal number 6 was another unselfish goal which involved a number of players in the build scored by Dufton assisted by Pringle.

A great team goal involving five or six Durham Utd players working the ball through the thirds saw Medland find top corner.

Half Time 7-0 to Durham.

Hetton came out in the second half to get at us and nicked the ball for a good scoring opportunity but Gregory was on his toes to make a good save.

Young Sam Palmer and Josh Carverhill got themselves involved for the seventh goal creating the opportunity for Dan Pringle to roll the ball home with several defenders tugging at his shirt.

Not to be outdone by the youngsters it was time for the veteran 19 year olds to step up as Benji Jackson and Kenny Shevels got in on the act with two goals each towards the end of the game.

A solid defensive performance marshalled by Mann at centre back along with Johnson, Aldsworth, Curl and Bell limited the oppositions chances whilst also being comfortable on the ball to build the platform for the more attacking players.

A Man of the match performance by Benji Jackson who as usual knitted things together between attack and defence with his outstanding ability.

A fantastic performance from the whole of the Durham Utd lads with 90 minutes of quality and unselfish football. Lots of creativity and some of the goals were exquisite.
